Illinois has passed into law the Transportation Benefits Program Act, which requires businesses with 50 or more employees worldwide to provide covered employees with pretax commuter benefit via payroll deduction. Illinois employers who do not currently have a commuter benefit program should begin working to implement one by the time the requirement goes into effect on January 1, 2024. The ordinance applies to any employer who meets the size limit and has one or more employees in the identified Illinois townships or counties.
